OnlyTyping (onlytyping.com) is a free typing test and practice site. We collect as little as we can to make it work. This page says exactly what that is.
What stays in your browser
Your test history, personal bests, settings, badges, lesson stars and coins are saved in your browser's local storage on your device. Without an account, that is where they live. Clearing your browser data removes them.
What we store on our servers
- Guests. When you finish your first scored test we create an anonymous guest profile: a random id, a hashed access token, a display name like "Guest a1b2", your level, and the scores you submit to the leaderboards (speed, accuracy, duration and the keystroke timing needed to verify the score).
- Accounts. If you sign up with an email and password we store your email address and a salted hash of your password (never the password itself). If you sign in with Google we receive your email address, name and Google account id from Google, and nothing else. Signed-in players also have their progress (tests, levels, badges, settings) saved so it follows them between devices.
- Usage events. A small, sampled set of anonymous events (for example that a test finished, or that a page failed to load) so we can find bugs and see what works. These do not contain what you typed.
We do not sell your data, show ads, or share it with advertisers. We do not use tracking cookies. We use browser storage only to make the site work (your saved progress, your sign-in and your settings).
Where it lives
OnlyTyping runs on Cloudflare (hosting and database). Cloudflare processes requests to deliver the site and may log connection details such as IP address for security and reliability under its own privacy policy. If you use Google sign-in, Google handles that step under its privacy policy.
Leaderboards
Your display name and your best scores appear on public leaderboards. Guests appear as "Guest" plus four characters. Your email address is never shown publicly.
Your choices
- Clear history and export or restore a backup from the Progress page.
- Ask us to remove your leaderboard scores or delete your account and its data entirely by emailing hello@onlytyping.com from the address on the account. We do this promptly.
Children
OnlyTyping is a general audience site and is not directed at children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, email us and we will delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes in a meaningful way we will update the date above and, for significant changes, tell signed-in players in the app.
